@daretobevintage - Shane Justin Collection - Haul & Review

As all my reviews start... well you know I had to have it lmao! I saw Cardi B in a Shane Justin design and checked the page until a new piece came out that I felt fit my style! This hoodie dress was right up my ally so I decided to take a leap of faith and order!

Ordered Monday, December 3rd, 2018 - TOTAL: $122 USD

The shipping on this order was incredibly fast which initally made me very impressed. However when my package arrived, I was quickly becoming irritated with the packaging. I was not happy with the fact that for $120 my dressed wasn't packed in a better envelope that wouldn't be hurt by water during transport. I do not blame the designer for the handeling of the package however it could have been packed with more care so it wasn't busting out of the envelope. Secondly it wasn't in a plastic wrapping to further prevent water damage. There was no packing slip, no business card, no flyer, no promo code, no thank you note, nothing. I was not happy, I felt unimportant after just spending a pretty penny on this beautifully designed dress.

I saw that the designer was having a christmas sale of 25% off so I decided to try again and reorder.

I was much happier with the packaging of this shipment. London was on preorder so I knew it wouldn't be shipping with this outfit, which I received just as quickly as the last. So with this shipment I was happy. The fit of the outfits is a whole nother thing. The green I decided to order a size up because it had no stretch and the orange small was almost too small. With my luck, of course it gets here and doesn't fit. It fit around the thighs but was too big around the waist and the top was just too big. The sleeves were made with zippers but its for looks not for use which was disappointing, I would have loved to be able to zip off the quarter sleeve.

After a month of not receiving a shipping notification of my London Pre Order, I saw this posted on the IG page and was immediately worried. As you can see from the screenshots, the new outfit he posted was a red tweed NOT like the original. He had taken the black London Pre Order off the website after I ordered so I was worried I wouldn't receive the original I ordered. So I did the professional thing and emailed instead of writing the IG page.

When I did not receive a response to my email, I called the boutique. Some times it would beep like the line was busy, other times it would just ring and go to an automated message saying the voicemail box was full so I couldn't leave a message. After that I dm'd the IG page as well as commented on new posts with no response. The very next day I received an email saying my London Pre Order had shipped.

Delivered - Thursday, January 24th.

Finally it was delivered. Just as my worst nightmares came true, my outfit was indeed the red tweed. Am I unreasonable to be angry when this is NOT what I ordered???

The sizing on his designs vary depending on the material which I don't like because everything I have ordered has been unflattering in certain places. I ordered a small in the hoodie which should have a 26" waist yet the waist was placed at my lower ribs making it super hard to zip with no give. So I ordered a medium in the 2 other outfits and upon receiving the green leather outfit... it was too big around the waist, thighs, and breasts. I just can't win.

I do not mind supporting small business and entrepreneurs but when I spend my hard earned money on your product and it is not valued, that is a major problem. While my questions went unanswered this designer could still post on social media and reply to other comments. I do not care what celebrity wears his clothes, I will not be shopping Shane Justin in the future.

It looks like I am not the only consumer to have issues with the customer service. You can view the BBB Complaints HERE. I have also opened a BBB complaint because sending me something different than what I ordered without communication is completely unacceptable!

PLT (Pretty Little Thing) Review

When I first saw these outfits (like usual... if you follow me, you know.) I knew I HAD to have them. I feel like such a fashionista some times but then I realize I am just a shopoholic!

Unfortunately when this dress arrived it was too big in all the right places. So I decided to try again when I saw this dress on sale! I thought it would be perfect for Valentine's day!

ORDER 2
Ordered Friday, January 4th, 2019 - TOTAL: $23.99 USD
Shipping - $5.99

Shipping Notification - Same Day.

Delivered - Thursday, January 10th.

This one fit better around my hips but the underwire was so cheap and poorly contructed it did not fit on my chest whatsoever. This size 6 was made for a D cup girl with no adjusting. And one of the straps was near impossible to tighten.

Sad once more I stumbled across two more dresses I just HAD TO HAVE, so I decided to try one last time. When I am going to learn my lesson?

ORDER 3
Ordered Monday, January 14th, 2019 - TOTAL: $40.99 USD
Shipping - $5.99
Tax - Included

Shipping Notification - Same Day.

Delivered - Saturday, January 19th 2019.

I was so excited about these dresses but yet again I was disappointed. The tea dress was too short & the oriental dress slit showed my crotch.

While the experience, customer service and delivery was up to par, each and every delivery I have received from PLT has not fit correctly. I can't say that I'd ever order anything else from their site.

Until next time. - D💋

You won't be crying Boo Hoo after this delivery! Boohoo.com Review

If you google "Boo Hoo Reviews", up pop tons of complaints from consumers. This isn't my first go around reading ridiculous reviews from angry consumers blaming the company for their own shortfalls. This includes brands I have reviewed like Ipsy.

I saw this dress on an instagram influencer and knew it would look great on me if it did on her, so I stalked the boo hoo page to find it and finally I did but it was sold out! So I waited & saw that one size 6 came in stock so I nabbed it! Mind you I am a tiny woman who normally wears a 4, but I was taking a risk because I wanted it SO much. I was pleased that it fit nicely, shaping my curves yet not too tight. Delivery was prompt, so I think I would order from boo hoo again except if this 6 fit me,I am not sure what size to order....

My order even came with this cute magazine! Reminds me of the catalog BEBE sends out.

Picture Perfect Styles (IreneTheDream) Holiday Onesies Review

If you have read my Fashion Nova - Innovators or Theives post then you know I hate to see a marginalized brand be ripped off. So naturally when I saw Irene The Dream in these onsies you already know I had to have atleast one in my closet! I checked out her website, Picture Perfect Styles, and started to narrow down which ONE I was going to get. Like all my online shopping experiences I make sure to read reviews. More than one person had commented how buying these onesies from her site was a ripoff when you could find the same ones on walmart.com. I have to assume that the onesies were on sale at walmart first since people coming to her site (released 2017 holiday season) knew where to find them already. In this case, it looks like another reality star buying ready made items to resell them at outrageous prices.

I opted to buy the one from walmart for nearly 75% less than whats asked on PPS and I am more than happy. Quality was NOT lacking and it fit great! I have linked the onesies below so that you may compare for yourself. Happy shopping!

"Don't Stop Believing" Santa Onesie
Walmart

"Lets Get Crackin" Nut Cracker Onesie
Walmart

"The S'More The Merrier" Snowman Onesie
Walmart

"Meet Me Under The Mooseltoe" Moose Onesie
Walmart

DIY No Sew Bow Tie

What's better than seeing the guys in your life dappered up in a stylish bow-tie? When the bow-ties are specifically made by YOU!

This special DIY doesn't require any sewing skills or a trip to the store for supplies! With simple materials you can take absolutely any fabric you want and transform it into a custom-made bow-tie! Since you only need a little, try using a vintage scrap of something you love or a piece of fabric that means something to you and your family. But this DIY works on silks and other fancier fabrics too, making it ideal for every event.

THE TOOLS
  • > Roughly 1/2 yard of fabric (your choice)
  • > Scissors
  • > Ruler
  • > Iron and ironing board or surface
  • > Pencil
  • > Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • > Iron-on Velcro (Optional)

HOW TO
1. Measure and cut your pieces. You will need one of each of the following pieces: 20x3.5", 6x1.75", 8.75x4.5", 9.5x5". If you're making a child-sized bow-tie, you'll need to adjust the size accordingly.

2. Prep your pieces. Starting with the 9.5x5 and 8.75x4.5 rectangles, fold the two long sides to meet in the middle and iron to create flat folds. The fold the two end sides down and hot glue into place. Repeat for the the two narrow pieces.

3. Create the bow. Take the two rectangles and stack the smaller one on top of the larger one, securing in place with hot glue on each corner and in the middle. Next, fold in half towards you and hot glue directly in the center and pinch together. Turn your seam to the inside then fold in half and fold the sides down then secure with hot glue, holding in place to let the glue harden.

5. Assemble the bow-tie. With the bow facedown, use a little hot glue to attach the 20" strip, making sure to attach it in the middle. Next, glue one end of the 6" piece to the center of the back and wrap around the front of the bow and secure again in the back with hot glue, trimming it as needed to fit. An alternative method would be to secure the center piece first with hot glue and then safety pin on the strap.

6. Finally, if using velcro, iron on 3" of Velcro to the straps. Make sure to iron on opposite sides so they meet up to fasten together. If not, tie straps together then tuck under!

I hope you enjoyed this simple DIY!

Until next time. - D💋

IOffer Review - Scam ???

So many people want to know!

Getting a great deal will get people to do things they don’t normally do, and this seems to be the case with most iOffer customers. Some people speculate that this website is run and owned by a Chinese company, which is why orders take 2 weeks to arrive in many cases. However, it is important to note that iOffer is an American company, it just allows vendors from all parts of the world to sell their wares. It seems to have fewer restrictions than eBay, which is why it attracts such a broad range of sellers.

The hype comes from some of the deals you can get at iOffer. There are many knock-off items being sold, so if you see a very expensive brand name item on sale for cheap you can be sure that it is not going to be the real thing once it arrives. As a buyer there aren’t any additional costs to using iOffer. The seller is charged fees to list and sell their goods and that is how iOffer makes their money.

Ordered Saturday, October 22nd - TOTAL: $16.99 USD

Tax - Included

Shipping Notification - Next Day

Delivered - Sunday, November 20th.

Is iOffer a Scam?
In order to differentiate themselves from sites like eBay, and to capture some of the market share, they had to be somewhat lax of who they let in to sell stuff. You can’t have an online site like this without having products for people to buy. By lowering the bar as far as who can sell, and from where, they created a situation where a lot of people have gotten lousy items, lousy service, or both.

The site uses a 3rd party secure payment processor that will process or decline your payment on the spot. With that being said, ALWAYS use paypal if accepted by the seller, a prepaid debit card or a gift card. As for people saying it’s a scam, I personally have bought 10+ items (ranging from $2 – $200 per item) and there was only 1 time I didn’t receive my goods ( it was a $2 item). I only buy from people that have been selling for more than a year and have a minimum 97% positive review rating. I’ve even had 2 situations ( different sellers) where my item didn’t arrive after 2 months and I emailed the sellers: 1 seller sent me another item (which I did received the one that was "MIA"), the other seller refunded my card right away.

So, my experiences have largely been positive. The negative is that it takes a very long time to get your stuff from China, anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months from my experience. If you are familiar with shopping on aliexpress or wish, the time frame is comparable to those.

So is iOffer themselves a scam? No, not really. But they are plenty of ways to get scammed so always be a vigilant and informed consumer!

Hope this review helped!

Until next time. - D💋

For the love of all, PUT DOWN THE NATIVE HEADDRESS!

Literally all you have to do is google image search "native headdress" and up pops copious amounts of pictures of pale faced light haired people sporting their "inspired" hipster headdresses they bought for a mere 25 bucks at urban outfitters.

No matter how many times cultural appropriation articles blip across your screen, it doesn’t seem to matter in the slightest when October rolls around. The likelihood of being familiarized with this term in a liberal college classroom is very high, but incase you haven't let me give you a quick lesson.

If you need a definition on Cultural appropriation, click HERE, or HERE... or HERE.

It’s mostly associated with white people donning themselves in Native American "inspired" garb, and calling themselves Indians. No no no, you are not dressing up as an Indian, you are dressing up as a Native American... and it’s not OK.

So what’s the problem? Dr. Keene, as you may know my fondness for her if you read this blog, puts it quite well in a post she wrote titled "But Why Can’t I Wear a Hipster Headdress?" among many others.

To put it simply;
  • > Headdresses promote stereotyping of Native cultures.
  • > Headdresses, feathers, and warbonnets have deep spiritual significance.
  • > There is a history of genocide and colonialism involved that continues today.

Listen, from one caucasian to another, the problem is that when white people take the attributes of underrepresented, marginalized and oppressed people then use them for their own gain, it is continuously perpetuating the image of racism and superiority in America.

If your child wants to dress up as Pocahontas for Halloween, that’s a different story. Disney princesses are hard to debate with a 5-year-old. Perhaps use that time to educate your child on the history and culture of the Native American people, or whoever else your child wants to dress up as.

Use your best judgment and if you have to question it, don’t do it. Don't dress up as generic native americans for Halloween, don't proudly adorn yourself in some cheaply made knockoff head dress for your photoshoot, and please PLEASE PLEASEEE, stop calling yourself Native American because you think or were told your great great great grandmother was Cherokee (whom might I add aren't even indegenious to the area where we live)! If you want to argue about the fact that you are Native American, then take the initiative to get a DNA test and start tracking down your lineage so you can reunite and share the struggles of your people, don't only claim to be when it is convenient for you.

If you are still questioning what kind of message you (as a Caucasian) are sending in relation to cultural appropriation, see my article "We're a Culture, Not a Costume."

Until next time. - D💋
