Sephora’s “Starter Witch Kit” and Spiritual Theft

POTTERHEADS! Can you remember when that fateful day finally came and we said goodbye to the wizarding world as we knew it? I couldn't believe the end of Harry Potter had finally come. It was a bittersweet day. Yet off in the horizon a glimmer of hope shone! It was the magic that was FBAWTFT! When I went surfing the internet for more info to satisfy my wizardly craving I came across a blog called Native Appropriations by Dr. Adrienne Keene. Native Appropriations is a forum for discussing representations of Native peoples, including stereotypes, cultural appropriation, news, activism, and more as stated by Dr. Keene herself. She wrote an amazing piece titled Magic in North America. At first it almost felt like an attack on the franchise I have come to know and love, yet the more you read the more you understand how detrimental non native's portrayl of natives or native cultural experiences and values can be. Ever since then, I love reading Dr. Keene's blog, it gives me new insights I might not have thought of before. She also wrote an amazing piece on Wakanda should you want to dive right into that.

If not be sure to check out her latest on Sephora's Witch Kit. Representatives for the cosmetics giant confirmed a report in the Glossy that the trendy perfume brand Pinrose will launch a “Starter Witch Kit” in stores and online on Oct. 9, in plenty of time for Halloween.

She opens with "I start most mornings by smudging [for non-Natives: info here]*. Smudging is grounding to me. It’s centering. It’s personal. So when I see things like Sephora selling a $42 'Starter Witch Kit' from the brand Pinrose that includes a bundle of white sage, I have…thoughts."

If you happen to check out Dr. Keene's blog, let me know what you think!

Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Palette Review

The Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly Eyeshadow Palette is a new Summer 2016 palette featuring 9 shades of eye shadow inspired by the sensation that is the peanut butter shade in their classic Chocolate Bar palette. You'll find the palette focuses more on peanut butter versus jelly as there are only two shades of purple in this palette.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette, $36
Where to buy: Sephora – Too Faced – ULTA

The palette is your standard eye shadow collection palette from Too Faced. It comes housed in their classic style tin with a how to guide located inside with three different signature looks using the 9 eye shadows to get you started. Low and behold it does in fact smell like Peanut Butter and chocolate since it is made with cocoa powder! Per the packaging, it contains no nuts so it shouldn’t be a problem for those allergic to peanut nuts.

Shades include:
  • Bananas (soft peachy gold w/ fine gold shimmer)
  • Extra Creamy (matte creamy beige)
  • Jammin’ (dark chocolate w/ golden sparkle)
  • Jelly (vibrant orchid)
  • Nuts About U (matte brown w/ red undertones)
  • Spread the Love (medium peach w/ gold sparkle)
  • Peanut Brittle (metallic burnt orange)
  • Peanut Butter (matte medium orange brown)
  • Peanut Butter Cup (metallic golden bronze w/ gold sparkle)

The palette is made up of shimmer, frost, and matte finishes with fresh and new fun colors. They are beautiful velvety almost creamy textured shades. These are super pigmented and easy to apply. They aren’t too heavy either and didn’t look metallic or overly frosted.

WITH FLASH --------------------------------WITHOUT

All in all the Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly eye shadow palette, for me, is an absolute must have and my favorite out of all the other similar palettes. The palette doesn’t seem like a rerun of past shades and it does contain some rather unique ones.

Too Faced - Christmas in New York 2016 - Grande Hotel Cafe Review

When it comes to holiday releases, brands get us excited for Christmas in September, and Too Faced always steals the show. We already know we love the brand's products, so when they are wrapped in adorable festive packaging, we lose our minds. Last year, the collection was Paris, France themed. This year, Too Faced is celebrating the city that never sleeps, New York City. So the Eiffel Tower is iconic, but NYC during the holidays is an experience unlike any other.

The products are decorated for kids in a candy store! The gift set is a hotel shaped box that literally opens up to reveal three coffee scented palettes of magic inside, plus a deluxe treat that’s better than sex! You'll just have to have it for every occasion this holiday season!

Too Faced Grand Hotel Café, $49
Where to buy: Sephora – Too Faced – ULTA

This cozy-café set was inspired by one of Too Faced founder Jerrod Blandino’s favorite NYC hotels, and opens to reveal three scented palettes: Peppermint Mocha, Gingerbread Coffee, and Eggnog Latte. In total, there are 18 eyeshadows, two blushes, a bronzer, a deluxe size of Better Than Sex Mascara, and a step-by-step how-to Glamour Guide with three beauty for each palette. Each palette has a scent that reflects it name. It is exciting to see TF expand the scent portfolio beyond chocolate and peach!

Eggnog Latte features coffee-toned shadows including cold brew and one very lust-worthy metallic-green.

Peppermint Mocha is all about peppermint flair with colors like candy cane, sprinkles, & coffee chip!

Gingerbread Coffee holds a mix of deep browns and gingersnap gold with a punch packing icy winter's dream!

They have a faint smell of each delicious scent and I really love the colors that are paired in each palette. They really go well with together. Plus if you wanted to give this as a gift, not only can you gift it to one person but you can separate each palette and give them to multiple friends or family members for the holidays!

So far I really love these palettes. All of the shades kick a**! They are creamy, pigmented, easy to blend and look beautiful on the eyes. The shimmer shades typically have a lot of fall out with them. That would be my only con to this set but I myself love working with glitter, shimmer, and baked shades!
